What
Is An Ecosexual?
The
Ecosexual is a relatively new concept. If you are unfamiliar
with what an Ecosexual is here is a brief
definition. It refers to a person, in a dating or relationship
situation, that is environmentally and socially conscious. It
also implies that the person purchases organic items and would
be seen driving a hybrid car. With green living becoming more
and more popular each year, you may be surprisedto hear that
defining oneself as an Ecosexual is not widely accepted in
society just
yet.
Why
is this you ask? With so many people choosing pesticide free
foods and chemical free alternatives to medicines and
household products, why is it that a person that defines himself
or herself as an Ecosexual gets the shaft from most people?
The only answer that makes sense is extremism.
Just as the “tree huggers” were and still are to many considered
whacko,
so are the Ecosexuals. In fact, Ecosexuals have been targeted
as a group of people that want to rid the planet of humans
for the sake of the earth. As absurd as this is, most ecosexuals
are not this extreme. Unfortunately, people of any one group
get over generalized to one extreme or another when it doesn’t
usually represent the majority of the group. I guess this is
why people that consider themselves an Ecosexual are only
interested in sharing their lives with another Ecosexual.
Most
people that consider themselves Ecosexuals simply refuse
to date anyone that does not live the way they live. Or at
the very least, they must accept it and somewhat conform to
the lifestyle. Living green is the most important part of
their
lives and their love life is no exception to the rule. Many
Ecosexuals are vegetarians, or at the very least organic and
kosher consumers. They are very health conscious and desire
to make a difference in the world through their lifestyle.
Artificial and chemically made products are simply off limits.
Ecosexuals often prefer country living as it is much more conducive
to an organic way of life. However, there are many urban Ecosexuals
that are quite happy in their “green” apartment, as long as
they have access to a range of outdoor activities. You will
be hard-pressed to find a true Ecosexual that doesn’t love
to bike, hike, camp, farm or spend large amounts of time outside.
Ecosexuals come from many different backgrounds, however the
majority associated with Ecosexualism are “free spirits” and
do not really associated themselves with any religious group.
I would compare them to the ancient Indians in terms of spirituality.
This can be a dilemma for a person of a specified religious
group that is looking for a similar partner in any specified
religious group. Take Christianity for example, it can be extremely
difficult to find an Ecosexual that formally claims to be a
Christian.
So, where do you find an Ecosexual that shares the same values,
principles and theories on life? It can be a tedious and daunting
task, as there are not too many dating and matching services
that cater to such a lifestyle. Of the few sites on the web
